American baritone Lucas Meachem has earned international acclaim for his compelling lyric baritone and charismatic stage presence, performing regularly on the world’s leading opera stages. A native of rural North Carolina, he trained at Appalachian State University, the Eastman School of Music, and Yale University before joining the San Francisco Opera’s young artist program.
At age 27, Meachem made his professional debut as Oreste in Iphigénie en Tauride at Lyric Opera of Chicago, followed the next season by his Metropolitan Opera debut as General Rayevsky in Prokofiev’s War and Peace. Since then, he has appeared in five Met Live in HD broadcasts — including twice as Marcello in Puccini’s La bohème in the iconic Zeffirelli production.
Known especially for his interpretations of Don Giovanni, Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Meachem now appears in a continual rotation of the leading opera houses across the United States and Europe. He resides in Minneapolis with his wife, collaborative pianist Irina Meachem.
